A Bit About Us
Experience country living amidst the peace and natural beauty of the Wilderness Lakes District.
The Funny Farm Shire is situated in a rural, sunny location next to the wetlands of the Garden Route National Park. There is abundant birdlife on the farm and adjoining wetlands and these can be seen close up at the Malachite Bird Hide which is 400m from the farm gate. One of the property's most outstanding features is its magnificent view of Langvlei Lake, which is a large protected bird wetland and an internationally designated Ramsar site.
The farm has eight hectares of elevated, thick indigenous forest which can be experienced close up when doing the Lonely Mountain Trail. This is about a 30 minute walk, taking you through the forest, with shady places to stop and have a rest while admiring the view over the lakes

Self Catering Accommodation in Wilderness
The property has six lovely accommodation units to choose from. Three of which are professionally built cob houses that feel cosy, natural and uncomplicated. They are well insulated (lovely and cool in summer and retain the warmth in winter). Each has it's own secure garden area.
The entire farm is off the Eskom grid and powered by solar with a backup generator. The farm has its own water supply, which is a combination of rain and borehole water.
The Wilderness Milkwood Village is 14km away from the farm and has a variety of shops, restaurants, medical facilities, hairdressers and a laundry service. The scenic route takes you along the edge of Langvlei Lake, past the Brown Hooded Kingfisher hiking trail, along the banks of island Lake, across the railway bridge at Ebb and Flow National Park, past the Half Collared Kingfisher hiking trail and along the Wilderness lagoon with its board walk.
The Funny Farm Shire is a special place for those wanting to slow down and rest in nature's tranquillity. Resonating The Lord of the Rings theme, with Gandalf's Wishing Well and Gollum's Den on the forest walk for the young ones to enjoy.
